About Us
One in four working Texans have no healthcare coverage, the highest percentage in the nation. A large number are employees of small businesses. The TexHealth Coalition is a voluntary association of communities that have joined forces to identify statewide options to reduce the number of uninsured individuals in their communities while maintaining local and regional flexibility. The Coalition secured legislation to allow the creation of regional healthcare coverage programs outside the traditional health insurance structure. Seven communities currently participate in the Coalition, including Houston (Harris County), Central Texas (Travis, Hays, Williamson, Burnet, Caldwell and Bastrop Counties), Galveston (Galveston County), El Paso (El Paso County), North Texas (Dallas County), San Antonio (Bexar County) and Brazos Valley (Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Albertson and Washington Counties). Six of these communities are currently developing 3-share or multi-share health plans.
Each of the Coalition partners leads a local collaboration that includes broad representation from stakeholder groups, including governmental entities, healthcare providers, small businesses, small business employees, nonprofit organizations and the insurance broker community. These groups participate in the design, development, implementation and operation of their local initiatives.
